Nick Ostrovskis
b. December 19, 1962, Melbourne, Australia.

BIOGRAPHY:   Nick Ostrovskis began making films after completing a film workshop at RMIT Union Arts in 1982. Since then he has made over 70 films on Super 8 and 16mm. The films have been screened throughout Australia and overseas. Nick has exhibited widely with organisations like the Melbourne Super 8 Film Group, Modern Image Makers Association (Experimenta), Fringe Network, Sydney Intermedia Network and Moving Image Coalition.

CRITICAL OVERVIEW:   Nick's work is very visual in nature. Most of his films are silent to emphasise this. Regarding one of Nick's films, the Artist David Cox wrote that "the sheer exhilaration at sitting in total silence before the cascade of light is something to experience". With the early films a sound track would have been considered a distraction.

At one stage in the 1980s, Nick was very involved with timelapse filmmaking. From the one extreme of quiet contemplative timelapse, Nick has made some very energetic animated films. His main area of interest is the animation of slides, negatives, drawings, paintings and photographs.

From 1996 to 1999, Nick worked at a nightclub doing film visual effects projections where Super 8 film loops complemented the music which played throughout the night.

Overall, Nick's large body of work made over 21 years reflects the varied interests and influences of the artist.
