CRITICAL
OVERVIEW:
My
catalogue of moving picture work basically falls into two stages
of development, the first being super and standard 8mm film, made
in the seventies and the eighties. The second, mini digital videos
made in the 21st Century.
The films
employ stop motion and in-camera editing. Guilt was made
as a response to Michael Lee’s The Mystical Rose. Expanded
home movies like Charm and Grace and the films Easter
and Edgerton extended upon the sentimental to the experimental.
This also can be seen in the expanded travelogues like Gone
Troppo and Top End.
The introduction
of mini digital video renewed my enthusiasm and interest in the
moving image. This recent activity has me putting my energy in
making documentaries about artists, an odd rock clip, a stage
musical and a few experimental videos.
As these
productions are self-funded I have not fallen to the pressure
of having to make moving pictures to a bland universal formula
and often extend upon the conventional boundaries. The unfortunate
side to my low budget productions is the variation in the quality
of the soundtrack.
