Clayton Jacobson
b. October 26, 1963, Victoria, Australia.

BIOGRAPHY:   Clayton Jacobson graduated from Australia's prestigious Swinburne Film & TV school in the mid '80s. Collaborating with established directors, Clayton entered the industry editing feature films, TV and documentaries, working with such luminaries as Jane Campion (The Piano), Richard Lowenstein (Dogs in Space), Paul Goldman (Australian Rules), Andrew Dominik (Chopper) and John Hillcoat (The Proposition).

Like many directors before him, Clayton cut his teeth directing music videos for some of Australia's premier musical acts including INXS, John Farnham, Kate Ceberano, and Jimmy Barnes to name just a few. Clayton then shifted gear, directing award winning local and international television commercials as well as two documentaries: The Holy Roadside for Mushroom records and Inside This Room, an ABC-TV special featuring the work of performers/composers David Hirschfelder and David Hobson.

Following on from directing many award winning short films, Clayton created Kenny - Self Proclaimed Scatologist the award winning short film at the 2004 St Kilda Film Festival which led to the creation of Kenny, the Australian box office and critically acclaimed hit of 2006. Clayton is currently developing Kenny's World the upcoming TV Series for Channel 10 and has several other feature film projects in development in Australia and America.

CRITICAL OVERVIEW:   I've always been drawn to truth in performance and the idiosyncratic nature of behavior. The kind of behavior that can tip you from a smile to a tear in an instant. Midnight Cowboy was a seminal film for me; I was devastated by the film's raw beauty and adoration for fringe characters. It's taken many short films, music videos and ultimately my feature Kenny to realize that I am always looking for those kind of moments of connection between characters in my films, moments of surprise that can celebrate the struggle, dignity and pathos of ordinary existence. It's that epic human drama unfolding over the neighbor's fence, drowned out by our lawn mower, that interests me - it feels real and bitter sweet.
